After more than two months of investigations into the case of former Albanian officer Fatos Cenaj , Italian authorities have officially confirmed that it was a case of intentional murder, excluding any other possibility.

One person is already under investigation for premeditated murder, while the prosecution is following the trail of revenge linked to the 58-year-old's past in Albania, before moving to Italy.

The incident occurred on June 8 in the via Casoni Basse area, in the municipality of Fontaniva, near Padua.

A few minutes after leaving the apartment, a witness heard a gunshot.

Shortly afterwards, two fisheries guards found the 58-year-old lying on the ground.

Initially, an accidental fall was suspected, but at the hospital, a bullet wound to the head was discovered.

After three days in critical condition, Fatos Cenaj passed away.

Investigations and the past in Albania

Italian investigators have collected evidence from security cameras in the area and interviewed people who knew the victim.

Investigations do not show that he had any conflicts or enemies in Italy; on the contrary, he was known as a calm and loving man, who worked and helped without asking for anything in return.

For this reason, investigators' attention has shifted to his past in Albania, when he served as an employee of the prison system.

Italian authorities are cooperating with Albanian authorities to shed light on any possible conflict or event that may have served as a motive for this murder.

His family left their apartment in Fontaniva after the incident.

"It was very scary, after his death his wife and daughter abandoned the house and took refuge with relatives," a neighbor told local media.

Despite ongoing investigations, Italian authorities are convinced that Fatos Cenaj was the victim of a planned murder, which has roots in his Albanian past.
