"I hope that Allah will forgive me." These are the words that Selami Bodit, the 41-year-old Albanian man who strangled his wife in the bedroom of their home in Savona, said to the police.
The 41-year-old Albanian, of the Muslim faith, is described by the Italian media as a radical person because of his faith. A regular visitor to the Savona mosque, he had influenced his family to also follow the rules of the religion.
His wife Etleva always wore long dresses and in many cases covered her head with a scarf.
The 31-year-old, who was a housewife, went out alone with her and her four children, whom she took care of every day. Even the use of the mobile phone for the deceased after a certain time was forbidden.
On the evening in which the crime took place, Selami Bodi and his wife had argued. After the fight with them due to jealousy, the wife locked herself in the room to make a phone call, which disturbed the author so much that she strangled him by putting her hands on his neck.
"I left the orphaned children on the street," Selami Bodi is said to have said to his cousin, Robert Spata, who arrived first at the scene.
Italian media write that he is the one who is currently taking care of the minors.
“The oldest of the children asked me to take him to the hospital to say goodbye to his mother before she died. I will never forget the tears on his face", Selami Bodi's cousin told the Italian media.
Etleva had recently undergone a surgical intervention from which she had not yet fully recovered. Despite the doctors' efforts, Etleva died after two days of agony.
Neighbors describe her as a shy, reserved and always polite girl.
