Arrested after 11 months on the run, Ylli Zalla appears in court for security measures

49-year-old Ylli Zalla, arrested two days ago in the village of Zallë in Fushë-Krujë, appeared on Wednesday at the Criminal Court of Tirana, where a hearing is being held to determine the security measure against him.

Zalla is accused of "Unauthorized possession of weapons and ammunition" and is defended by lawyer Dritan Gina. The hearing was opened by judge Lorena Çabej, who is expected to hear the claims of the prosecution and the defense.

The 49-year-old was arrested on Monday, following a police operation in his village near Fushë-Krujë. According to information, he had been able to evade the police for about 11 months, while previous operations to capture him had not been successful.

His arrest came a day after a quantity of explosives exploded in Zalla's apartment. After the incident, the 49-year-old went live on social media, where he denounced the incident and filed charges against the Police.

Zalla has also been mentioned in media reports in connection with the murders of Gilmando Dani and Muçi Shaliani in Rinas. However, in the official arrest notice, the State Police accuse him of illegal possession of weapons, while not officially linking him to the murders that occurred in Rinas.

The court hearing continues, while the court's decision on the security measure against the 49-year-old is awaited.
