Today, the flags of state institutions in honor of former President Bujar Nishani were lowered to half-mast, while homage in his honor was held this morning in the premises of the Presidency. Many friends and politicians from the right and the left said goodbye today to the former Head of the Albanian State. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, as well as the US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, were also present.

But, in the homage, the absence of three important Albanian politicians was noticed: the Prime Minister Edi Rama, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and the former leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.

Rama is in the United States, where he took over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, and that was why he did not attend the homage. As for Basha, news have circulated in the media that he is abroad for a working visit, but no more details are known.

As for Erion Veliaj, the reason for his absence is unknown.

Bujar Nishani died at the age of 56 in a hospital in Germany, due to a lung disease, which worsened COVID-19.
