A serious incident occurred yesterday in Kalithea, Greece, after a 2-year-old girl with an Albanian father fell into a fountain and lost her life.
The incident happened yesterday evening at the fountain in "Kyprou" Square after the child had escaped the attention of her two parents.
Passersby who noticed this immediately notified a police team passing by, who rushed to the scene. Police officers took the little girl in good condition and transported her by patrol car to the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Pediatric Hospital.
After more than 40 minutes of effort, doctors at the Children's Hospital managed to keep the 2-year-old alive, however, she is still in critical condition under intensive care.
Investigators of the incident were surprised by the fact that when doctors asked the parents about her age, the parents replied that she was about 5 years old, while it turned out that the girl was only 2 years old.
Therefore, the authorities arrested and are taking the child's 25-year-old father of Albanian origin under investigation, in order to clarify the circumstances in which the little girl was found in the fountain.
The 23-year-old mother has also been taken under investigation, but is free as she is with her daughter in the hospital.
Both the child's father and 23-year-old mother will appear before the prosecutor on Monday on charges of neglecting the supervision of a minor.
