For the fifth time, the Special Prosecution Office has announced the extension of the investigation deadlines for former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who is being investigated for the incinerators case.
The delay in responding to the letters of request that the prosecution sent to Switzerland, as well as the examination of the mobile phone, once again became an obstacle to closing the investigations into the former number two in the government.
SPAK has set a deadline of December 23 for the closure of investigative actions, the date when the file for Ahmetaj, who has been on the run for more than two years, is expected to be closed.
Arben Ahmetaj's cohabitant, as well as his former cohabitants Albina Mançka and Erjola Hoxha, are also being investigated for the same matter. Both are being investigated for the criminal offense of "concealment and failure to declare assets" and "money laundering."
Arben Ahmetaj was declared wanted on July 10, 2023 by order of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. He is suspected of having committed the criminal offenses of "corruption", "money laundering" and "hiding assets".
In addition to the incinerators case, Ahmetaj is also being tried in the first instance for the "Buka sha" case, for the criminal offense of "abuse of office".
