In the next conversation with pensioners, from Korça, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the revision of the retirement age.
The head of the government underlines that the idea to revise the retirement time for certain categories is dictated by the increase in life expectancy in the country.
Following the discussion, Rama described the old pension scheme, inherited in 2013 from the Berisha government, as scandalous and underlined that the SP created the new formula, which brings more money into the pensioners' pockets.
"It is a fact that a poorly constructed pension scheme is the cost of an entire generation. An entire generation is being burned by a poorly constructed pension scheme. And the pension scheme that we inherited was not poorly constructed, a scandalous scheme and only to postpone today without thinking about tomorrow's pensions. When we took office, the pension situation was hopeless, because a ceiling of 24,000 lek was set, and despite the contributions, they could not receive more than 24,000 lek. There was no more than 24 thousand lek in 2013. And the average pension at that time was 105 euros without talking about the minimum which was a pension that not everyone received, as we found tens of thousands of pensioners without pensions at all. Because they had not contributed to the scheme, generally housewives or men. There was no lek. The then ceiling for 24 thousand lek should be abolished and today we have a number of pensioners up to 400 thousand lek. Because of contributions. We have an overview of the differentiation between teachers who retired before 2014 and after 2014, those who retired after 2014 have a higher pension according to the reform , said the head of government.
Rama added that in a few days the pensioners will also get to know the bonus they will receive at the end of the year, describing the increase in the value of this benefit as the first step of the scheme that will be followed by the increase in pensions.
"We don't have it yet, but definitely in a short time, we will let you know how the year-end bonus will change. It is the beginning of this process of reviewing all the steps we follow in relation to retirees and pensions. From next year, we want the scheme to be strengthened and from the income that comes from economic growth, to go to pensioners in the form of a bonus. This should lead us to a more positive perspective ", said Rama.
