The ship with the suspected hazardous waste in the Port of Durrës will continue to stay at the port, while it is expected that the procedures for anchoring in the Port will begin. The Prosecutor's Office of Durrës has issued a notice, clarifying that the ship will remain at the port until a suitable place for anchoring is secured.

The notice clarifies that the delay of the seizure is related to the complexity of the case, such as the volume of the objects subject to seizure, the type of object and especially the need to guarantee their environmental and physical safety. Meanwhile, until the finalization of the seizure of the 102 containers suspected of carrying dangerous waste, the ship will be monitored by the State Police.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office says that the analyzes of the suspected dangerous substance will be done in local laboratories and for this reason the Faculty of Geology and Mining, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the National Agency of Natural Resources are in discussion, institutions which will make available laboratories and experts.

"The Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of Durrës General Jurisdiction, taking into account the great public interest in relation to criminal proceedings no. 1596.2024 and the execution of the container seizure order, informs that the institutions charged with the execution of the order sequestros, date 27.10.2024 of the Prosecution at the Court of First Instance of the Durrës General Jurisdiction, have organized the work and are in the phase of its execution.

They have officially notified the Prosecutor's Office about the measures they have taken, while the delays are related to the complexity of the case, such as the volume of items subject to seizure, the type of item and especially the need to guarantee their environmental and physical safety. Until the finalization of the sequestration process, the ship will continue to stay in Rada under the monitoring of the State Police.

Also, the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Durrës has addressed several Albanian public institutions, such as the Faculty of Geology and Mining, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the National Agency of Natural Resources, to make available laboratories and experts for conducting analyzes of the material located in the containers subject to seizure.

Due to the high public interest that this case carries, the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Durrës will continue to keep the public informed about the next steps", the prosecutor's office announces. 

The Port Authority has not yet determined the place where the "Moliva" ship will enter and stay. Earlier (October 31), the Port Authority's response to the Prosecutor's Office was that they did not have the conditions for anchoring the ship, its monitoring and security issues for the premises where the containers would be placed.

Industrial waste of the steel smelting plant in Elbasan must be kept in safe places according to the order of the District Prosecutor's Office. The ship is located 1.5 miles from the port, on the outer row.

It is expected to determine whether the ship will be put inside the quay of the port where the conditions for storage will be created, or outside its premises and in a safe storage and surveillance with cameras.
