Explosion in Tepelena, 29-year-old man prosecuted, police provide details

29-year-old Xhulio Salaj has been prosecuted by the police for the criminal offense of "Unlicensed possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition."

This citizen is suspected of possessing a quantity of fire-tracer fuse and combat ammunition, which was found in a warehouse near his residence, in the village of Mamaj. A quantity of explosive material accidentally exploded in the warehouse, and as a result, he and his friend, citizen Lisien Shehu, a resident of Memaliaj, were injured.

Both injured parties continue to be under medical care, out of danger to their lives.

"Following the preliminary information provided on 21.04.2026, regarding the injury of 2 citizens, from the explosion of an explosive substance, near a house, in the village of Mamaj, Tepelena, we would like to inform you that following the investigative actions, the specialists for the Investigation of Crimes of the Tepelena Police Commissariat referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office where the proceedings were initiated at large for the citizen Xh. S., 29 years old, resident of the village of Mamaj, for the criminal offense "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition", the police response states.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Gjirokastra, for further action.
