The Supreme Judicial Council

The Supreme Judicial Council condemns the attack that happened in the early hours of this morning in the apartment of judge Tonin Sterkaj, in Shkodër.

In a response, the KLJ asks the prosecuting body to investigate and clarify the incident in order to bring the perpetrators to justice. 

The reaction of the KLJ

Based on the information conveyed by the written and visual media as well as based on the preliminary information of the Police, today regarding the event that happened in the residence of the magistrate Mr. Tonin Sterkaj, a judge in the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Shkodër, the Supreme Judicial Council conveys the concern about these acts that seriously affect the safety of the judge and pose a serious threat to the entire Albanian society.

The Supreme Judicial Council condemns the criminal act and asks the prosecuting authority to investigate, clarify the event and bring the persons involved to justice.

The High Judicial Council expresses its support to all judges of the judicial system to guarantee their safety, so that they can exercise their duties without fear of threats, since respect for their function and dignity is a prerequisite for a regular legal process, for an effective and efficient justice system, but also for the normal functioning of the rule of law.
