Lightning strikes 190 sheep and goats in Pogradec, some of them die

A herd of cattle was struck by lightning this Friday in the village of Derdush, Dardhas administrative unit, in the Municipality of Pogradec .

According to preliminary data, the lightning killed about 10 heads of small cattle, while 17 others suffered injuries.

The herd , consisting of about 190 sheep and goats , is owned by Tatjana Biçoku and was migrating from the Pirg area to mountain pastures when it was struck by lightning.

Veterinary services have been dispatched to the scene to assess the condition of the surviving livestock and take the necessary measures.

Due to the lack of telephone signals in the mountainous area, communication with shepherds and herd owners has been difficult.

Meanwhile, a final balance sheet is expected after field verifications.
