After the Christmas and New Year celebrations, January begins with an increase in flu morbidity.
The first days of 2026 have seen an increase in infections in the population, mainly from seasonal flu but also other viruses in circulation. For doctors, it is an expected situation that occurs at the beginning of every year, due to various gatherings, domestic and international travel, but also due to the cold weather.
According to reports from the National Emergency, children aged 4 to 14 are the most affected age groups during this period, mainly by AH3N2.
Doctor Skënder Brataj says that this season's flu is characterized by high fever and is very resistant.
The Head of the National Emergency advises parents not to be alarmed and not to rush to the hospital unless they have worrying and serious signs.
Like every flu season, the intensity of its circulation increases in the cold months and the peak of infections is marked in late January, early February. In addition to the AH3N2 and AH1N1 subtypes, the Sinusitis virus, which mainly affects young children, Covid-19 and other viruses are also circulating.
