Massive rainfall, IGEO: Increase in flows and levels is expected in all rivers. Here are the areas at risk of flooding

The Institute of Geosciences (IGJEO) informed that today there may be flash floods of small mountain rivers and landslides in the regions of Shkodër, Kukës, Dibër, Lezhë, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Vlorë and Gjirokastër. In urban areas, localized flooding problems may occur in these regions, depending on the state of the sewerage.

According to IGJEO's hydrological calculations, as a result of the high intensity rainfall yesterday, it is expected that there will be an increase in flows and levels in all rivers today.

The Ishëm, Erzen, Mat and Vjosa rivers will be at increased risk of local flooding. The Drin-Buna River and Lake Shkodra will experience increased flows and levels, and there will be a risk of increased flooded areas in the Nënshkodra area.

Snowfall is also expected in the northern, eastern and southeastern areas of the territory. The snowfall will be followed by a significant drop in temperatures and frost may create various problems and difficulties in road transport.

Today, moderate to locally intense rainfall is expected in the Shkodra and Elbasan regions, while moderate rainfall is expected in the other regions. The rainfall is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.

At altitudes above 600 m above sea level in the north, east and southeast, precipitation will be in the form of snow.

Minimum and maximum air temperatures are expected to reach, on the coast: 9/10 °C; in lowlands: 8/9 °C and in mountainous areas: -2/0 °C.

The wind is expected to blow moderately to strongly on the coast and in mountainous areas.
