Global cocaine production has reached record levels as demand rebounds after the COVID lockdowns.

This is the conclusion reached by a new United Nations report on the production and trafficking of cocaine.

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime said cocaine cultivation increased by 35% between 2021 and 2022 to record levels.

In this report, the name 'Albania (Albania)' or 'Albanian (Albanians)' is mentioned more than 30 times, giving a very large role to Albanian-speaking criminal groups in the world drug market.

The report says that cocaine is distributed from the Netherlands to other European countries and Albanian-speaking gangs seem to play an important role in this, especially in trafficking to Albania and Italy. Another important destination is that of the United Kingdom, where it has been estimated that Albanian-speaking groups exercise considerable control over the market.

The findings suggest that new centers for trafficking have emerged in West and Central Africa.

The report also said traffickers were increasingly using international postal services to deliver drugs to consumers. Europe and North America are the largest markets for cocaine, followed by South and Central America and the Caribbean.

While the report said markets in Africa and Asia were "still limited", the UN's Ghada Waly said the potential for the market to expand there was a dangerous reality. The Global Report on Cocaine highlights that the increase in production was the result of an expansion in the cultivation of cocaine, as well as improvements in the conversion of cocaine into powder cocaine.
