"There are officials who steal 4 million euros from the state and move freely, while I am in prison with my money"!
This was the reaction of Elidon Çela in the courtroom, where he faced not only the charge of not declaring money and valuables at the border, but also the suspicion of laundering the proceeds of the criminal offense.
32-year-old Çela, administrator of the international passenger transport company and driver of the bus where 522 thousand undeclared euros were found, was arrested on October 21 by the police in the seaport of Durrës, together with his two assistant drivers.
The Durrës Court set the security measure of "prison arrest" for Çela, while releasing his two assistants. During the check on the bus of the Padua-Lushnje line, coming from Bari, the money that Çela was bringing to Albania was found hidden.
He has claimed that the money is clean and the product of his 27-year work in Italy, while the lawyer stated that he will appeal the decision of the Durrës court.
During the inspection, the police services found a quantity of various goods suspected as contraband.
