The neighbors of Alexandra Elena Mocanu, 35 years old, from Romania and her husband Avni Mecja, 42 years old, from Albania have spoken about the last moments before the tragic event.
According to Il Corriere, the neighbors have expressed that their relationship has been very conflictual as they have often heard screams and noises from their apartment.
"We heard them arguing often, it almost became routine. Frequent loud fights could be heard from their apartment, even on Saturday evening we heard them arguing".
The woman was found dead on Sunday in their apartment at Viale Trieste 42 in Bolzano, exactly from that apartment, on the fifth floor of the large building in front of the Lido, the screams and loud arguments between Alexandra and Avni reached the ears of the neighbors.
"We heard a fight between them, it was clear that they did not agree much, but nothing more than that. What were they arguing about? We often heard her complaining that she had to do all the housework alone and accusing her partner of not helping her", says one of the neighbors.
Some neighbors explain that, however, they had no concrete perception of an imminent danger of physical violence between the two cohabitants. It was actually, the neighbors explain, harsh discussions between the two cohabitants and not cries of pain, which in that case would suggest to the neighbors the appearance of forms of physical violence. However, the testimony of the neighbors regarding the last fight sounds almost like a direct dramatic account of the murder, especially if you analyze their behavior before.
"We heard shouting among them, as many other times, around 9:30 p.m. Then, about an hour later, no later than 11 p.m., we heard a sharp noise of drawers being violently opened and closed and quickly. After that we heard nothing more, absolute silence until the discovery of the body on Sunday. Thinking about it now" - the neighbors conclude in a worried tone.
The police who discovered the woman's body on Sunday afternoon had then rummaged through rubbish bins, apparently looking for something, the murder weapon. Yesterday afternoon, before Mecje was handed over, the Public Prosecutor of Bolzano issued a statement.
"The last hours of the woman's life are being reconstructed, even after the testimony of some neighbors. For this, any witness who has useful information for the reconstruction of the criminal event is invited to contact the mobile team of the police station of Bolzano", he said.
We recall that Avni Mecje killed his Romanian wife, Alexandra Elena Mocanu, on Saturday, but the crime was only discovered on Sunday, when the Albanian called his family and informed them that he would return to Albania after killing his wife.
This call set the authorities in motion, who went to the couple's apartment and found the body of the 35-year-old wrapped in a blanket. The neighbors confessed to the authorities that the pair fought a lot because the Albanian was jealous. Meanwhile, during the afternoon, Mecje surrendered to the police.
