As the battle with the flames on the island of Sazani continues, the Ministry of Defense clarifies that the Armed Forces have and are ready the necessary flying vehicles, intended for use in fulfilling the tasks and operations that must be performed even in emergencies such as fires. 

" The Armed Forces has light helicopters on standby, but in the specifics of their use they have restrictions to participate and fulfill tasks in cases of different types of emergency operations. The Air Force has helicopters complete and equipped with vehicles " for operations to support medical emergencies as well as modern medium-sized fourth-generation military helicopters ," the statement said.

Regarding the Cougar helicopters that are said to be in service, the Ministry of Defense informs that some of them have passed the maintenance process and are located in Albania. However, the reason why they are not used to extinguish the fire on the island of Sazan, which has been at war with the flames for 3 days, remains in question.

"As a rule they are subject to strict maintenance and repair requirements, based on periods of use and flight time. In this process, a number of Cougar military helicopters, who have long been active participants in numerous emergency operations in times of floods, fires, earthquakes, extreme weather conditions, to help the community, to participate in drills and in the Armed Forces, as well as those with NATO developed in our country, have gone through the process of maintenance and readiness, to the third level of maintenance, a process that is done only by plants abroad, specified for this modern equipment level. While a part of Cugar helicopters repaired through the new practice of cooperation with the NATO Procurement Agency (NSPA) are located in Albania", follows the announcement of the Ministry of Defense.

Among other things, it clarifies every situation and real need when the lives of people or homes are endangered. Albania cooperates with the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC) and in cooperation with its partners is able to guarantee security .

" Neighboring countries also use this mechanism to meet their needs in case of emergencies. As we have said before, our internal capacities are limited. Meanwhile, countries like Turkey, Greece or Italy rely on the European mechanism, because specific natural emergencies "they can not cope only with internal capacities" , it is said in the reaction.
