The Special Prosecution detains a Serb suspected of war crimes in Gjakova

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office today detained the citizen with the initials DR, of Serbian nationality, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of "War crime against the civilian population".

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect committed war crimes against the civilian population in the Gjakova region during the war in Kosovo in 1999.

By order of the Special Prosecution, the defendant is under temporary arrest and detention for 48 hours and will be brought before the Pre-Trial Judge within the legal deadline for further proceedings.

The criminal offense "War crime against the civilian population" is sanctioned by Article 142 of the Criminal Code of the former Yugoslavia, as the law in force at the time of the commission of the criminal offense.
