Presidents Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron met today at the White House.
In an appearance before reporters alongside Macron, Trump said the war in Ukraine "could be over within weeks" and said he "sees no problem with sending European troops as peacekeepers."
He also mentioned that he could meet with Zelensky "this week or next week," while Trump has also confirmed that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
When asked whether Ukraine should give up territory as part of a deal to end the war, Trump said: "We'll see."
Macron said the US's re-engagement power "is a source of uncertainty for Putin" and added that France is "ready to offer security guarantees to Ukraine."
Regarding the prospect of using European troops as peacekeepers, Macron added that the troops "would not be on the front line, but would be a guarantee in Ukraine."
