Bajra's legal representative, lawyer Sokol Tahiraj, has reacted after public statements by MP Marjana Koçeku, who sent a message on social media implying that her family members have been threatened by them.
In her reaction, Koçeku warns that she will retaliate if anything happens to her family.
Lawyer Tahiraj emphasizes that "we invite MP Koçeku to address any claims she may have to the competent justice bodies and not through public statements that risk prejudicing certain persons and damaging their reputation without a proven legal basis."
Full statement:
We are aware of the public statements of MP Marjana Koçeku, in which our clients are mentioned directly and with labels that, in our assessment, are not based on any facts or evidence made public.
As legal representatives of our clients, we consider it unacceptable for certain individuals to be labeled and prejudiced through public statements, outside of any legal process and without any judicial decision to justify such claims.
In a democratic state based on the rule of law, criminal responsibility is individual and cannot be built on generalizations, labels or political statements. Any claim must be proven before competent institutions and not through public messages that aim to create negative perceptions in public opinion.
The statements in question not only seriously damage the reputation of the individuals mentioned, but also create an unnecessary climate of tension and division. No one should be placed in the dock through the media or social networks.
For this reason, we are carefully analyzing the content of the statements made and reserve the right to follow all legal avenues provided by Albanian legislation to protect the interests, dignity and reputation of our clients.
We invite MP Koçeku to address any claims she may have to the competent justice bodies and not through public statements that risk prejudicing certain individuals and damaging their reputation without a proven legal basis.
We will continue to resolutely defend the rights of our clients and react to any statement that violates the fundamental principles of the rule of law and the presumption of innocence.
