On July 8, Shkodra was shaken by a serious incident, as a municipality employee lost his life after trying to save two tourists who had fallen into the water.

Captain Arben Anamali saved the two Israeli tourists by sacrificing his life in a truly heroic act. But the July 8 incident raises a number of strong questions about responsibility for the tragedy.

The capital will try to shed some light on an event that the authorities seem to want to keep in the dark.

The ship involved in the July 8 tragedy is called Drini. It is owned by the Albanian Development Fund, which has lent it to the Municipality of Shkodra. The latter has left it under the administration of its company “Bio Strajca”, which has recently changed its name to Skodrinon.

Skodrinon is a joint-stock company owned by the Municipality of Shkodra. The object of its activity is the provision of services in the field of economic development for the proper functioning of public markets and the trade network, the organization of services in support of local economic development, the activities of the tourist operator and the maritime tourist operator... etc.

When the company took into use the first two ships, Drini and Buna, they were inaugurated by Benet Beci as a historic development for Shkodra.

“Tourist boats are today a reality on Lake Shkodra, bringing back sailing to this treasure for all. Thanks to the support of the Albanian Development Fund and the Albanian Government, the first two tourist boats with a capacity of 33 seats each have already been anchored near the Shiroka pier, providing an opportunity for visitors to Shiroka to enjoy the magic of the largest lake in the Balkans,” Beci wrote on his Facebook profile in April last year.

But it wasn't long before Skodrinon and the boats sank in the Hatay Sea. A tragedy that raises many questions.

1-Do the Shkodra ships have a navigation license? What are the license numbers?
2-Do the ships have approved anchorages?
3-Does Lake Shkodra have an approved navigation map, including the approved route and navigation plan?
4 Did the ship in the tragedy also have an assistant captain as required by the Albanian Maritime Safety Regulation for ships with more than 12 passengers?

The prosecution should seek answers to these questions and not try to silence what could be a serious state crime and not an accident, as they are trying to do./ kapitali.al
