The Journalists' Association of Albania has reacted to the lawsuit filed by businessman Dionis Teqja against several media outlets, regarding the deletion of several media publications regarding his "wanted" announcement.

AGSH emphasizes that every individual has the right to turn to court for the protection of his reputation and dignity, but a careful balance must be maintained between protecting reputation and guaranteeing freedom of expression and public information.

"The Journalists' Association of Albania is closely following the decision to "secure the lawsuit" taken by the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, regarding several media publications related to businessman Dionis Teqja.

AGSH believes that every individual has the right to go to court to protect their reputation and dignity, just as media and journalists have the obligation to report professionally, verify information and respect ethical standards of journalism.

On the other hand, we consider that in such cases it is important to maintain a careful balance between protecting reputation and guaranteeing freedom of expression and public information, in accordance with the Constitution and European standards for media freedom.

AGSH expresses concern that measures related to the removal or blocking of media publications should be treated with particular care, considering the impact they may have on the exercise of the journalistic profession and the public's right to be informed.

We encourage all parties to handle this process with professionalism, calmness and respect for institutions, while the judicial bodies continue to guarantee a fair process in accordance with democratic standards and European jurisprudence on media freedom.

In any case, the staggering figures being sought as compensation against journalists and media outlets, reaching up to 500,000 Euros against journalist Arsen Rusta, are completely abusive and a form of pressure against him and others.

"The Journalists' Association of Albania will continue to follow this issue closely, in support of professional standards, legal certainty and media freedom in the country ," the AGSH response states.
