Just two months after registering in Tirana, the Serbian television company, "Arena News Channel Two Albania", has increased its initial capital 25-fold, from 500 thousand lek to 12.5 million new lek.

The Albanian "Arena" is owned by the parent company, with almost the same name, "Arena News Channel Two DOO Beograd", registered in the Serbian capital and ultimately owned by the public company, "Telekom Serbia".

"Arena" was first registered in our country on November 25, 2025. During January 2025, its main shareholder decided to increase its initial capital twice, a sign that it has decided to make significant investments in Albania.

The arrival of a Serbian television station in Albania, although not banned, still constitutes an innovation, not necessarily positive. Even more so, when public data proves that the roots of this television station go back to the authoritarian rule of Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? and to people who held power during the dictatorial regime of Slobodan Miloševi?.

The threads of Milosevic's power

The Serbian company "Arena News Channel Two DOO Belgrade" was registered in March 2024. In Albania, the representative is Zoran Glisovic. While the main director of the group in Belgrade is Aleksandra Krstic (Kristic).

Information previously published in the Belgrade media links Ms. Krstic to media threads that went to the family of Slobodan Milosevic.

Aleksandra Krstic was previously a director of "Happy TV", a media group derivative of the former "TV Koshava", which was owned by Maria Milosevic , the daughter of former Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic.

Also, media reports say that Aleksandra Krstic previously held important positions in the media group "Invej" AD, owned by a controversial Serbian businessman, Predrag Rankovi? (Rankovi?) - Peconi, suspected of having had ties to the notorious criminal group, " Zemun Clan ".

Happy TV, long-run by Aleksandra Krstic, has a strong pro-government stance towards President Aleksandar Vu?i?. Happy TV has often been used to improve Vu?i?'s image, especially in the face of international media reports on his way of governing.

When, in 2023, the American newspaper "The New York Times " published an investigation that raised strong suspicions about Vu?i?'s connections with criminal groups, "Happy" TV in Belgrade was widely used to defend the image of the Serbian President.

A Serbian television in Albania

The company “Arena News Channel Two Albania” will function as a normal television platform, according to data published by it at the National Business Center. Its activity will be “Production, broadcasting and distribution of audiovisual content via television, the internet, digital platforms and social networks. ii. Publishing and management of electronic publications and online media. iii. Production, editing and distribution of video and audio materials for informational, educational and entertainment purposes…, etc.”

But, while the activity presented is within the bounds of normality, what seems somewhat strange is the fact that a Serbian media outlet decides to set up shop in Tirana. Albania and Serbia are not known for friendly relations, a gap created especially due to the behavior of Serbian governments towards Kosovo Albanians.

However, the gap between the two societies has been attempted to be reduced through personal relations between Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?.

Precisely, this warm Rama-Vu?i? relationship seems to have convinced the media close to the Belgrade boss to start establishing a television station in Albania, an undertaking that seems impossible for Albanian investments in Serbia.

The opposition in our country, as well as many authoritarian voices in Kosovo, have accused Prime Minister Rama of having transformed himself into a "vassal of Vu?i?" for years, creating numerous political and economic access for the Serbian president in Albania, while the same cannot be said for Albanian economic interests in Serbia./ Boldnews.al
