The EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood, Oliver Varhelyi, in a press conference, showed the points on which the discussion at the EU-Western Balkans summit focused on economic growth.

From SEPA payments, green lanes, free internet network, to the establishment of a center in the Western Balkans for the innovation of scientific research, Varhei said that the countries of the region have agreed to be realized within this year.

"I think that today we had an agreement on four areas where there should be results. First, SEPA which means a comprehensive review of regulatory aspects. Countries are preparing for this, it shouldn't be too difficult because the banking system itself has European banks. They must apply the same rules that apply in the countries of origin, the challenge is how quickly they can be applied on the ground. It was agreed that this will be achieved this year. The second had to do with the green lanes, to remove the waiting time at the border points. Customs procedures will be adjusted to speed up border crossings throughout the region. We will extend it to all border crossing points and it should be completed by the end of this year and reduce costs for businesses.

The third has to do with scientific research work, it means bringing the next generation of different industries to the region, innovation, scientific research, they will need a center where these industries are, a core and this to be created in the Balkans, digital, pharmaceutical sector.

The last free internet network in all of BP, everyone can get online. We have the funds for this, we must equip the municipalities with all the tools to make this a reality this year", said Varhelyi.
As for the goals for next year, Varhelyi said that they are waiting for proposals from the Western Balkans.

"What will we do next year, we are waiting for the region itself to bring us ideas. What do the countries of the region want to happen next year, where are the obstacles, what things can we achieve next year to show tangible changes", said Varhelyi.
Varhelyi said that another 6 billion euros are foreseen for the region, 2 billion euros in grants and the rest in loans.

"As far as funding is concerned, apart from 30 billion euros, we have 6 billion euros, 2 billion euros in grants and the rest in loans. These additional funding will be for the reforms that will bring your country to the EU", he said.
