The residents of Selenica and 47 surrounding villages continue their opposition to the merger of this municipality and its unification with Vlora.
After the assembly held on Saturday morning, as agreed, they went out on Sunday in a peaceful protest. The protest lasted for about 60 minutes and took place in the village of Drashovicë.
Speeches were given there by residents of the area, arguing the reasons why they are against the territorial reform. It was also declared that the protest and opposition to the reform will continue.
Dozens of people have also taken to the streets of Maliq in a protest called regarding the new territorial map proposed by the Socialist Party, where Maliq will move to the administration of the Korça municipality.
Jurgen Isufllari, an employee of the Maliq municipality, says he feels betrayed by his administration colleagues, as they should have stood up for their rights.
"We need to say some things openly. I called for a protest because I realized that something dirty is being played out for this city," he says.
"I want to know whose hand signed the dissolution of this city and not this building. There will no longer be a cafe or a bakery here. We are a municipality with 31,000 inhabitants."
"We don't have to unite with Korça. I am very disappointed with the administration, I feel betrayed by all my colleagues, but I will fight for them and when I am here I will pass with my head held high," he said.
Even opposition members of the Maliq municipal council say they will not approve the merger of the municipality, and have prepared a call for an emergency meeting.
One of the protesters was harsher on Prime Minister Rama, saying that he had betrayed all socialists, while another resident said that to build a chicken coop, one now has to travel 65 km to the Municipality of Korça.
The municipality of Maliq has over 60 villages and 30 thousand inhabitants, while it is the 17th municipality in the country in terms of population.
