Don't click suspicious links! State Police raise alarm over WhatsApp

The State Police has issued an appeal to citizens, warning them of a wave of cyber fraud attempts aimed at taking control of WhatsApp accounts.

According to the announcement, the perpetrators send messages with fake links and, after convincing users to provide the 6-digit verification code, manage to register the account on another device.

Authorities urge citizens not to click on suspicious links, not to share the verification code with anyone, and to activate two-step verification to protect their accounts.

NOTICE TO CITIZENS
The State Police appeals for caution against attempts to gain access to WhatsApp accounts.
The State Police informs citizens that cases of fraudulent messages and links have been detected, which aim to gain control of WhatsApp accounts.
Fraudsters send links with various claims, such as to vote in a contest or to confirm an action. The user is then asked to enter the 6-digit WhatsApp verification code. This code is used by the perpetrators to register the account on another device and take control of it.
The State Police advises citizens:
* Do not click on suspicious links, even if they are sent by known persons;
* Never share the WhatsApp verification code with anyone;
* Activate the Two-Step Verification function in the WhatsApp application;
* If you suspect that your account has been compromised, act immediately to recover it and notify your contacts.
