Over 30 million Euros in cryptocurrencies seized from criminal groups will be administered in Albania, government changes law

The Albanian government has approved a draft law, which makes it possible to bring cryptocurrencies seized from Albanian criminal groups into the administration of Albanian authorities.

Capital has learned that the amount of cryptocurrencies exceeds 30 million euros and is currently held in Belgium.

Currently, Albania has no legal basis to administer cryptocurrencies seized from criminal groups. As a result, those seized by SPAK are held in a special wallet in Belgium.

With the new draft law proposed by the government, these cryptocurrencies will be brought to Albania and administered by the Sequestered and Confiscated Assets Administration Agency.

Over 30 million Euros in cryptocurrencies seized from criminal groups will be

"AAPSK administers virtual currencies seized/confiscated by the justice authorities, according to a court decision or prosecutor's order.

"The rules and procedures for the administration of virtual currencies are determined by instruction of the minister responsible for public order and security," the draft approved by the government states.

To date, SPAK has officially declared the seizure of 10 million euros in cryptocurrencies from the gang. But Kapitali has learned that at least another 20 million euros have been seized from criminal groups, for which investigations have not yet been finalized but are being held on behalf of Albania in Belgium.

During this time, the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets has conducted training to train its staff in the management of cryptocurrencies and the electronic maintenance of their portfolios. These trainings were conducted with the support of the French Agency for Seized Assets, which, as learned, will continue to assist the AAPSK in the future in the management of cryptocurrencies./ kapitali.al
