Loans for students, Kushi: Only one study program will be financed, it will be
Evis Kushi

From this new academic year, all students will be able to take out student loans to cover tuition costs. The decision was taken at today's government meeting.

Minister Evis Kushi explained that this student loan scheme enables the student to cover the study fees and living costs during higher studies, while presenting the details and selection criteria.

Thus, the loan will be given to those students who have not received a scholarship or who are not exempted from the annual fee. It will be given in two installments and will calculate the university fee as well as an amount of money equivalent to the minimum wage. Meanwhile, students will start paying after completing their master's or bachelor's studies.

The main criteria for the selection are the value of the loan, the pursuit of studies in the priority programs as well as the grades.

" The student loan is granted without physical collateral

The student loan is granted to cover the costs of following a study program only.
The financing of the loan is done in installments, at least twice a year, after confirmation by the HEI that the student has paid the annual fee and has attended the learning process

Loan repayment starts no earlier than 3 years after signing the loan contract for first cycle studies, no earlier than 2 years after signing the loan contract for second and third cycle study programs no earlier than 5 years after signing the loan contract, for the cases of the loan received for the integrated study program of the second cycle

The loan interest rate must be unchanged throughout the duration of the loan contract.
Students who benefit from student loans should not be beneficiaries of previous policies, such as scholarships or exemption from fees, in order to expand the number of beneficiaries as much as possible.

Beneficiary students will be selected based on several priorities, such as:
1. loan value
2. following studies in priority programs,
3. previous results during studies, etc.

The effects of this decision start immediately, during the 2023-2024 academic year ," Kushi said.
