The Albanian Muslim Community has officially reacted to the arrest of surgeon Dervis Hasi, who was arrested for abusing an underage girl.
As reported in the media, and as those who knew him have confessed, the doctor was Muslim and frequented the Mosque regularly. He co-lived with three women and for two years allegedly sexually abused a 16-year-old.
But the Albanian Muslim Community says that the issue belongs to the competent bodies, and that it distances itself from the person concerned, whether he is a Mosque attendant or not.
"The Muslim community, like any other religion, does not keep a record of psychological data or deviations of different natures of people, whether frequenting or not of our cult premises," the statement said, while asking the media to exercise caution in the report.
FULL RESPONSE OF KMSH:
In response to numerous questions from the media about the case of the arrest of a doctor suspected of abuse and other offenses, we clarify the following:
The Muslim Community of Albania is a religious institution, which exercises its activity in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force of the Republic of Albania.
It is an institution that deals with religious life and the conveying of the clear and pure Islamic message in our country, which it has been exercising for a century in accordance with the highest religious principles and in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Albania.
We find it inappropriate to take a high interest in an issue that does not belong to the CPC, but to the law-carrying bodies of the Albanian state.
The Muslim community, like any other religion, does not keep a record of psychological data or deviations of different natures of people, whether they are frequenters or not of our objects of worship.
We distance ourselves from any individual or group that misuses religion for low-level purposes.
We ask the media and public opinion to be correct and careful in their quotations when reporting similar events.
An individual who is an object for law-enforcing ogans can be nothing more than that.
We distance ourselves from any individual who commits low and ugly acts, much more so by cowering after faith.
Islam is a religion of peace, high morality and justice.
