Iran "desperate" to end war, urgent message to international community

According to officials, Iran has signaled with desperation that it wants to end the escalating conflict with Israel and resume nuclear talks.

Tehran has sent urgent messages that it would be open to returning to the negotiating table if the US does not join the attacks, while telling Israel that it is in the interest of both sides to curb the violence, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

This development comes as Israel ordered a major evacuation warning for parts of Tehran ahead of an expected escalation in the air campaign against the Iranian capital.

The country's leaders had warned that Tehran residents would "pay the price" for the third night of rocket attacks on Israeli cities, which have so far killed at least 24 people and injured more than 500 others.
