After 23 days of hunger strike, Albanian Pano Ruci decided to end his protest after all his demands were taken into account. He had requested the exhumation of his son, Denis Ruci, who lost his life in the Tempe railway tragedy, as well as specialized examinations.
In a statement issued today, Ruci stressed the importance of full transparency in the process of toxicological and other examinations, for which the green light has already been given for their development.
He confessed that he experienced the 23 days of the strike with much pain and fatigue, but thanks to the patience and support of the people, he found the strength to persevere and hope.
“I will be here until I receive answers to all my demands,” Ruci said, adding that he will continue the fight until the government confirms their acceptance.
Pano Ruç's lawyer, Zoi Konstantopoulou, declared on Tuesday evening from Syntagma Square that:
“Today the light defeated the darkness. With the strength of his spirit and that of the entire society, Pano challenges the harshest and most ruthless mechanisms. Concealment and schemes to cover up the truth did not triumph. The re-circulation of the 3,000-page file documenting the negligence of the institutions is proof that his struggle and perseverance were not in vain.”
