$302 million loan for Albania's armament, US Embassy reacts to Top News

The US Embassy has responded to Top News regarding the $302 million loan agreement for Albania's armaments.

“The United States and Albania share a strong and long-standing partnership as NATO allies, and we encourage Albania to continue to invest in our collective defense.

The Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program is a key instrument in this partnership, providing assistance in the form of grants or loans to help Albania purchase U.S. military equipment, services, and training.

Since 2022, the United States has provided Albania with approximately $80 million in FMF grants and $5 million through the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program to strengthen its defense capabilities.

This support is now coupled with the newly announced $302 million loan under the IMF, reflecting the expansion of our cooperation in the field of defense.

This assistance advances several shared priorities: strengthening interoperability according to NATO standards, promoting burden-sharing within the Alliance, reinforcing regional stability, and supporting the United States' industrial base through the purchase of American-made defense equipment.

In addition, the New Jersey State National Guard has a 25-year partnership with the Albanian Armed Forces under the State Partnership Program, supporting Albania's membership in NATO and continuing today with joint training and deployments.

Together, these programs reflect a strong defense partnership that continues to strengthen the modernization of Albania's armed forces and its ability to fulfill its NATO commitments," the US Embassy said in a statement to Top News.

We recall that this agreement was strongly opposed by the Democratic Party.
