KLP formalizes 5 candidates for the position of Prosecutor General

The High Prosecutorial Council has revealed the names of the candidates who will run for the position of Prosecutor General.

At the end of the application deadline, the KLP has confirmed that there are 5 candidates in the race, who have submitted the application and documentation to run for the leadership of the prosecution institution.

Arta Marku returns to the race to lead the General Prosecutor's Office, an institution she previously led as Acting General Prosecutor.

She was elected to this position by the Assembly in December 2017 and held the position until the election of the full-term Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela. Currently, Marku holds the position of prosecutor at the Appeals Prosecution Office in Tirana.

Also part of the race is Special Prosecutor Adnan Xholi, who has been a candidate in two contests for the leadership of SPAK and is now aiming for the position of Prosecutor General.

Tirana prosecutor Ylli Pjetërnikaj, Tirana prosecutor Rovena Zoto and Fatjona Memçaj, prosecutor at Eurojust, also responded to the public call of the High Prosecutorial Council.

The High Prosecutorial Council has opened the competition for the position of Prosecutor General, as the mandate of the current Prosecutor Olsian Çela ends in December of this year. The Prosecutor General serves a 7-year term without the right to re-election.
