A record amount of 1.1 tons of cocaine was seized in Greece today during an anti-drug operation, while the "mastermind" of the narcotics trafficking is suspected to be Albanian citizen Fatjon Prendi.
Prendi, who is suspected of being one of the organizers of drug trafficking, is not an unknown name to Greek justice.
He was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison and was arrested on December 7, 2012. After about nine years in prison, he was released on parole on February 11, 2022.
While serving his sentence in Domokos Prison, in 2017, authorities found a knife in his cell, raising concerns about his involvement in illegal activities even while serving his sentence.
Fatjon Prendi was known for his connections with Alfons Ndocin, another Albanian who was killed in Greece. Their close ties have raised suspicions of involvement in organized crime networks.
Information about the other arrested person – Arben Mashi
Arben Mashi, another Albanian with a criminal past, has also been arrested. He was caught in 2001 with 101 grams of heroin, while in 2016 he was arrested with 60 kilograms of marijuana.
In addition to drug-related offenses, Mashi has also been previously investigated for robbery and immigration violations.
Investigations continue to uncover the full international drug trafficking network and identify other accomplices involved in this operation.
