The Supreme Court has decided to overturn the life imprisonment sentence for Mexhit Picari, convicted of the murder of his son-in-law, Kudret Saliaj.

According to the Court, the case against Picari will be returned for retrial to the Appeals Court, with a new judicial panel.

Along with Picari, his daughter, Dhurata Saliaj, sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison as an accomplice in the crime, will also be retried in the Appeal Court.

The incident for which the father and daughter were convicted occurred on June 4, 2021, on the veranda of a bar near the Civil Chamber of the Tirana Court.

Salias fired a pistol from close range at the table where his son-in-law, who was in the process of divorcing his daughter, was sitting. The bullets killed Salias and wounded his lawyer, Adriatik Cami, who was sitting at the same table.
