What is the truth behind SPAK's second request to the Assembly for the
Belinda Balluku

SPAK has sent a second request to the Parliament for the arrest of Balluk.

According to sources from within the Albanian Parliament, the Special Prosecution Office submitted a second, unpublished request 15 days ago for the removal of the mandate and the arrest of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, with new charges related to the seizure of the villa in Dhërmi, suspected of being Balluku's hidden property. This comes 6 months after the first request by SPAK, which was rejected on March 12 in a plenary session with 82 votes of the majority.

According to the same sources, this situation has caused tensions in the Assembly administration, even to the point of pressure to dismiss the person who filed the request. However, to date, there is not even a notice about this request on the website of the Special Prosecutor's Office or the Special Court.

With another version, the head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, reacted yesterday. He called on SPAK not to act with double standards. According to him, the seizure by SPAK of the villa in Dhërmi aggravates Balluk's criminal position and should force the Special Prosecution Office to act immediately - it should address the Assembly to remove her mandate and request her arrest, describing this as a test for equality before the law. So in Bardhi's statement, justice has not yet made a second request for the arrest of the former deputy prime minister. And yet Bardhi's statement itself, without any reason of the day, increases suspicions of a lack of transparency.

What cannot be explained in this entire story is not the possible silence of the majority and Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has hung his fate on that of Balluk, but the silence of SPAK.

What is the truth? Is there a second request sent 15 days ago to the address of the Albanian Parliament? If so, why has SPAK not made it public? What would be the reason for the lack of transparency of the Special Prosecution Office, in the case of submitting the second request for the arrest of Belinda Balluku? Is the public silence of the prosecution office giving the majority the opportunity to buy time until the beginning of the next parliamentary session after the holidays?

Just like the first time, SPAK and its leader Klodian Braho have a public obligation to be transparent about the existence or non-existence of an important decision such as the request in the Assembly for the arrest of Belinda Balluku.
