The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, is undergoing a 'catharsis' in the police hierarchy, while continuing to build his new leadership team.

He has requested the resignation of several of the current leaders in the regions.

So far, two career officers have officially resigned: the director of Lezha, Islor Islami, and the director of Kukës, Loard Sallaku. Other resignations from regional police leaders are expected in the future.

The most talked about resignations at the moment are the leaders in Berat and Dibër, but other regions are not excluded.

With the departure of the current leaders, Hita is expected to appoint trusted individuals to create the team that will lead the State Police.

The first to receive this trust is Erjon Ahmeti, who has been appointed head of the Fier Police. Initially, the changes began with the appointment of new deputy directors in several districts.

As part of these moves, Besmir Dervishi has been removed from the post of Deputy Director of the Tirana Police and appointed Chief of Crimes in Kukës. Meanwhile, Oliger Torba has been appointed Deputy Director of Crimes in the Tirana Police. Andi Banushi has been appointed Deputy Director of the Elbasan Police, replacing Krenar Guçe, who has been transferred as Chief of Order in Përmet.

Also, Dritan Muça has been appointed deputy director for crime investigation in Vlora, while Dritan Malaj has been appointed to the same position in Berat. While Petrit Halo has been appointed deputy director for Crimes in Shkodra.

Changes have also been made in other sectors, at the level of police chiefs. On Wednesday alone, Hita signed around 40 changes in police structures. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen who the new leaders in the regions will be.
