Two Albanians, Fatlind Boshnjaku and Ergys Aliaj, have been sentenced by the British court to 8 and 2.4 years in prison each. They are accused of being part of an organized crime gang that ran a drug trade operating 'like a taxi service'.
British media reports that during a six-month period, the two Albanians supplied cocaine and heroin to local users, making profits of up to half a million pounds.
They used the so-called 'postcode method' to make it possible to ship cocaine and heroin to hundreds of different countries. In turn, the police tracked them down through the interception of text messages and phone conversations.
According to the English prosecutor's file, the drug-selling system operated like a taxi service, with customers contacting via text messages the number they had left with the trafficker to place the order, and then the courier was given the location and instructions from the controller on where to carry out the deals. .
By using two phones, the drug-trafficking gang aimed to make it more difficult for police to connect couriers, customers and hotline operators.
Police managed to trace the calls and their locations, in Somerset and London.
The Bosnian controlled lines, often from London, took orders from customers and ran at least four couriers, including Aliaj.
The prosecution's filing further states that the drug line also used marketing gimmicks such as 24/7 service and better deals for those who brought a friend to buy the drugs.
They carried out drug deals in various locations, including Kershaë Close in Taunton, the Asda car park in Wellington and Stogursey.
Prosecutor Alistair Haggerty said police estimated phone evidence showed the total number of deals carried out by the gang between October 2020 and March 2021 was nearly 12,000. While the value of the agreements was 471,867 pounds.
As for Aliaj, the lawyer said that he was 17 years old when he arrived in Britain and that he had left Albania to escape gang violence, while he worked in car washes in England and now wants to return to a normal life. But the court did not accept the requests of the lawyer, leaving the two Albanians in prison.
