High flow in Qafë Thanë

An increased flow of travelers was recorded this weekend at the Qafë Thana border crossing, where vehicle queues and long waits were created during the day at the entry and exit points between Albania and North Macedonia.

According to information, the Albanian and Macedonian sides have operated with three counters, in an effort to cope with the influx and speed up border procedures.

However, at certain times during the day, traffic remained heavy due to the high number of vehicles crossing the border.

The increased flow is mainly related to the fact that hundreds of drivers from Pogradec, Prrenjas, Rrajca and surrounding areas travel to Struga to fuel their vehicles and buy food, which is several times cheaper than in Albania.

The difference in prices remains significant: if a liter of diesel in Albania is sold for around 218 lek, in North Macedonia it costs around 95 denars, or approximately 150 lek.

Border authorities are calling on citizens to show patience and, when possible, avoid peak hours, while the flow of movement is expected to continue during the following hours and throughout Sunday.
