The well-known British media has dedicated an article to the Albanian convicted of murder and sentenced to 32 years in prison, Eugert Merizaj .

" The Sun " writes that Eugert Merizaj, otherwise known by the nickname "Babale" on the social network TikTok, has won around 20 thousand pounds.

The article also notes that the Albanian proudly tells his followers that British authorities cannot deport him to Albania without his signature.

The full article from "The Sun":

A murderer has earned £20,000 — from a TikTok live stream recorded inside his prison cell.

Eugert Merizaj earned the money in just seven minutes while using a smuggled phone at HMP Manchester.

In 2022, he was sentenced to 32 years in prison for the shooting death of rival drug dealer Hemawand Ali Hussein in Hartlepool in 2019.

Last night, Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy strongly criticised Merizaj's actions: "Our criminal justice system is supposed to keep us safe and punish criminals."

Albanian Merizaj won the money from a TikTok Live match — when two users broadcast live at the same time and try to convince followers to send them virtual gifts.

Whoever gets the most points wins — and the points can then be converted into cash.

During the game, Merizaj shouts and begs his audience to send him more tokens and share his video so that the number of viewers increases.

Then he reads aloud the names of those who send him gifts.

Merizaj uses several TikTok accounts.

His winnings are believed to be paid into a friend's account abroad.

In another live video, Merizaj — seen wearing Dolce & Gabbana shoes — is seen lighting a cigarette.

And when asked in a third by a viewer when he would be sent home to Albania, he boasted that they couldn't force him to go.

Foreign criminals should be deported at a certain point in their sentence under new rules announced by the Labour Party last year.

But Merizaj boasted with a message: "Without my signature, no one can send me to Albania."

Last November, a judge in his hometown of Fier recognized the British court's conviction.

The judge said: “ We agree to accept Eugert Merizaj’s request to serve his sentence of 32 years in prison, minus the time served in the United Kingdom, in an Albanian prison. ”

He will be held in Peqin prison, home to some of Albania's most notorious criminals.

After we notified TikTok about Merizaj's accounts, they took action to block them and ensure he could not withdraw funds.

The social media company said: " Multiple accounts used by the inmate were banned in accordance with the policies in our community guidelines ."

"Our justice system is supposed to keep us safe and punish criminals. People like Merizaj should be severely punished and deported. Social media companies should not be coming to the aid of the Ministry of Justice," said Shadow Justice Secretary Timothy

"Instead of letting the likes of Merizaj laugh at us, when will David Lammy take control?"

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable. We have taken immediate action to ensure these posts are removed and are urgently investigating this incident.”

"We are investing £40 million in security measures to stop illegal items. Prisoners who break the rules could face additional imprisonment. "
