For more than 10 years, intelligence officers from at least four countries have been searching for the head of an Albanian organization dedicated to reselling cocaine, heroin and other drugs in France's Lyon region.
Europol and Interpol intelligence officers claim that this man decided in 2021 to move to Colombia to create alliances with cartels operating in the country. He settled in a popular neighborhood of Santa Marta and stayed there for two years without being discovered, but a series of photos sent to women were the key to his whereabouts.
The stranger assured that he lived in Bogotá and boasted of pictures of trips to Europe.
This is the Albanian citizen Besnik Gjergji Nikolli, alias Niko or "el Gordo", (the fat one), wanted on behalf of France by Interpol for the crimes of drug trafficking and money laundering.
Niko, according to intelligence investigations, had connections with drug trafficking structures in Albania, the Netherlands and Germany, who were his partners in Europe and were responsible for obtaining drugs.
EL TIEMPO investigated and confirmed that the Albanian boss was caught after French intelligence agents attacked his weakest side: women.
"Investigators used a woman as internet bait and he ate her. She was an undercover agent who gained the trust of 'Niko' and added him to social networks," a judicial source told this newspaper.
According to the authorities, the Albanian rarely left his apartment in a modest third-floor apartment in the San Pablo neighborhood of Santa Marta, where he organized parties with working women.
"He told the ladies that he lived in Bogota and that he only went to the beach for a walk," a legal source assured.
Capoja remained hidden in a well-known neighborhood of Santa Marta. A short time later, he began sending the undercover agent photos of his habits, travels and possessions. “One of those images had the geolocation in the metadata. "From that moment on, the task of finding the exact location for his capture began," said the investigator.
Moreover, neighbors began to tell the authorities that the stranger's extravagant and secluded lifestyle seemed very suspicious.
EL TIEMPO has accessed six of the photos and in them the Albanian has posed in front of luxury vehicles, on farms in Europe and even in a bar in Santa Marta.
In fact, the last photo was what made it possible to locate the stranger. "We only knew that he was in Colombia because he had entered through Bogota, but he was not in the records. France insisted that 'Niko' was in the country."
The arrest took place last weekend in Santa Marta (Magdalena), after an operation led by Brigadier General José Luis Ramírez Hinestroza, director of Dijín, in collaboration with the French Anti-Drug Office and the support of the Colombian Air Force.
