A 24-year-old Wizz Air employee in Albania was sentenced to prison a few days ago after it emerged that he had stolen a Rolex watch worth 20,000 euros from the luggage of a construction businessman who was traveling from Tirana to Athens.

In the last week of November 2024, the Tirana court found the young man Klajdi Q., residing in Krujë, guilty of the charge of "theft by abuse of office".

Due to his age and lack of previous criminal records, the defendant was sentenced to 9 months in prison, but will only serve 6, as he benefits from a 1/3 reduction due to the summary trial.

According to the documents, it turns out that the case presented to the court by the Tirana Prosecutor's Office occurred on May 21 of this year.

Businessman Kosta Z. set off on a trip from the Albanian capital to the Greek one, with the airline "Wizz Air".

In his luggage that was to be loaded into the belly of the plane, he had wrapped, among other things, a Rolex watch, worth 20 thousand euros.

When he arrived in Athens, he checked his luggage and found that the watch, which was of considerable value, was missing. The businessman contacted a relative to file a criminal complaint in Tirana, as he was convinced that the Rolex had "disappeared" during procedures at the airport.

Following the report, Tirana Police have initiated verifications and have also questioned employees of the "Wizz Air" company, who are in charge of processing and transporting passengers' luggage.

Among the people questioned was Klajdi.Q., who admitted that he was the person who took the Rolex watch. He claimed that he did not steal it, but "found it after it fell out of the luggage."

In his statement to the Judicial Police officers, the 24-year-old stated that "I was scheduled to load the "Wizz Air" plane with the Rinas-Athens route on 21.05.2024, 10:30-18:30. I was together with employees SB and D.Gj when loading the luggage of this plane."

He further states that he was far away in the belly of the plane. "While stacking the luggage in the belly of the plane where I was located deep in the belly, at this moment, from a dark gray suitcase, a watch fell out, put in a black bag, where it was wrapped and it had the inscription Rolex, which had come out of the suitcase and had fallen into the belly of the plane.

"I took that watch and saw that it was a Rolex and I didn't tell any of the other workers."

He then tells how he took and hid the expensive watch: "I then took this watch and hid it on my body and then I hid it first in a place near the room where we stay and when I finished my work shift I had it with me on my body hidden where I put it in the underwear I was wearing."

Klajdi had the "Rolex" watch with him even when he was questioned by the Judicial Police officers, as the statement minutes noted: "I am returning this Rolex watch to you today. I also want to say that no other person is involved in this matter because as I said, I took this Rolex watch alone in the belly of the plane and hid it alone to take it out of the airport...".

After these statements, he was taken into custody as a suspect and the Tirana court initially imposed the security measure "house arrest" on him.

In the end, in November of this year, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 6 months in prison./ Bold
