US envoy to Tirana, Nancy Van Horn, participated in the IKP and KPK conference, held after 7 years of "Vetting".

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office today assumes the powers of the Public Commissioner.

Van Horn stressed that all Albanians should be proud of the achievements of the justice system, while calling on SPAK to continue investigating corruption in the country.

"Since 2018, the commissioners have worked diligently to review the integrity of judges and prosecutors, you have set a standard that is held up as an example not only in Europe but also in other countries. A difficult process, but promising for a fairer society for all citizens. There has been resistance to justice reform and this continues today in some countries.

The Commissioners have made great sacrifices, both professional and personal, and have made unpopular decisions. They have shown extraordinary courage in facing the retribution for these unpopular dismissal decisions. The people of Albania should know that government officials are being held accountable and will continue to be so thanks to the good work of brave Albanians like you. We celebrate this excellent milestone in the achievements of the vetting bodies today.

The reassessment is not over, the Albanian people's demand for justice is as strong as it was in 2016, thanks to your work. Prosecutors at SPAK are fighting to bring crime bosses and corrupt senior figures to justice. I urge all of you present today to be proud of these achievements.

There is more to do, you have built new justice institutions on behalf of the Albanian people. It is important to use them to the right extent, you must be efficient, independent and impartial. You must continue the work in the face of any obstacle, we have been with you since 2016 and we are starting to see the impact of justice. Continue this progress against corruption.
