Five men have been sentenced to a total of 189 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering two young men, including Albanian Klevi Shekaj, and attempting to kill another person in Archway, London, in 2023.

According to the Metropolitan Police, referred to by Top Channel, the convicted are: Lorik Lupqi, 21, of St John's Way, N19; Abel Chunda, 29, of Caldy Walk, N1; Jason Furtado, 28, of Halton Road, N1; Eden Clark, 29, of Huddleston Road, N7; Xavier Poponne, 21, of Halton Road, Islington, N1.

They appeared at the Old Bailey High Court on September 26, after a 15-week trial, where they were found guilty of double murder and attempted murder.

The two victims were: Leonardo Reid, only 15 years old, and Klevi Shekaj, 23 years old, an Albanian citizen.

The incident occurred on June 29, 2023, when the group of convicts attacked a crowd of young people who had gathered in a London neighborhood to shoot a music video. According to police, Leonardo and Klevi had no connection to criminal groups, but were mistakenly attacked after being mistaken for rivals of the convicts' gang.

Leonardo was killed at the scene, while Klevi died in hospital from stab wounds. Another person was also seriously injured in the attack.

Lorik Lupqi, a gang member from Islington, was the initiator of the attack. He had seen the meeting and texted: “opps (rivals) are out.” After coordinating through more than 50 phone calls over two hours, the five showed up at the scene and carried out the attack.

After the incident, Lupqi illegally fled to Kosovo. He was extradited to Britain in November 2024, with the help of Kosovo authorities and the British NCA.

Poponne, another of the perpetrators, was caught with lyrics to a song called "drill" describing details of the attack that only the perpetrators would know. He also changed his name on social media to "X3," referring to the number of victims stabbed.

All defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment, with minimum periods they must serve before they can seek parole:

Lorik Lupqi - minimum 39 years;

Eden Clark and Abel Chunda – minimum 38 years each;

Jason Furtado – minimum 37 years;

Xavier Poponne – minimum 37 years, also convicted of drug and firearm possession.

In court, the victims' mothers shared their pain.

Klevi Shekaj's mother said: "No punishment can bring my son back, but a fair decision will perhaps serve as a warning to others. He told me he would be home in five minutes… instead, the police came to the door with news that changed my life forever."

Leonardo's mother said: "Leo was a wonderful boy, smart and full of life. His murder was a cold, ruthless act. No amount of years can erase this crime."

Lead investigator, Detective Jim Barry, said: "Every man in this group played a role in this brutal attack. Whether it was carrying the knife, shooting, or helping to hide others, they are all responsible. They will spend the majority of their lives behind bars, as they deserve."/TCH
