The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has reacted to the fire situation in Europe, mentioning Albania among the countries facing wildfires.
In a post on the social network X, she announced that the EU is monitoring the situation and that the Copernicus satellite system is supporting mapping operations.
She adds that the European Civil Protection Mechanism is ready to come to the aid of countries in need.
"Europe remains on high alert for massive fires. Pressure is increasing in Albania, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our Copernicus satellite system is already supporting mapping operations.
"Through the Emergency Centre, Europe is closely monitoring fires across the continent. And the Civil Protection Mechanism is there whenever a country calls for European solidarity," Von der Leyen wrote.
