Abdullah first set foot in his parents' homeland after being born and raised amidst the horrors of the Syrian camps following the civil war. His story is perhaps the saddest of the three children who were repatriated on Wednesday morning. He lost his father, Bledar Hamza, who was killed fighting alongside ISIS, his mother, whose fate is unknown, and his two sisters.

Among the three children returned from the camps in Syria, the story of the minor Abdullah is perhaps the saddest. He lost his father, Bledar Hamza, who was killed fighting alongside ISIS, his mother, whose fate is unknown, and his two sisters. Today, he is among his mother's relatives, who have taken it upon themselves to take care of him.

When he got off the plane on Wednesday morning, the minor was holding the hand of 79-year-old Hajrije Taushani, the elderly woman who had gone to Syria in search of her son and grandchildren.

In the Al Hol camp, she had become the guardian angel of several Albanian children whose parents had been taken away by the war. Abdullai, born in Syria, was one of them.

His father, Bledar Hamza, was killed a few months after going to fight alongside ISIS, while the fate of his mother and two sisters is unclear.

Bledari was born in the village of Leshnica, Pogradec, in 1985, and completed high school in Italy, where his parents lived. He graduated with honors in Finance.

In 2012, he returned to his hometown, to his relatives, his aunt and grandmother, along with his wife and their daughter, then 1 year old Saida.

In Leshnica, at that time, the village imam Almir Daci, was intensively recruiting young people, who, like him, later ended up in Syria. Leshnica would be one of the three largest recruitment centers for Albanian jihadists. At least 24 men, women and children from this village and two other neighboring villages supplied the ISIS war.

Initially, Bledar Hamza moved to Tirana. Instead of a position as a financier, he started working as a cook in one of the capital's mosques. The trip to Syria was in 2013. He had told his family that he was working as a cook in Saudi Arabia, while in reality, he was training to become part of the fighters of the so-called Islamic State.

Six months later, in July 2013, his wife Resmie, about 20 years old, from a village in Rrogozhina, and Saida, the couple's daughter, also left Rinas Airport, never to return.

Months later, Resmia called her family to tell them that Bledari, also known there by his new name Abu Samed, had been killed, while they had given birth to another child, Merjemen, and at that time she was pregnant. This time she was expecting a boy, who would be named Abdullah.

In 2020, the girl, Maryam, was identified in the infamous Al-Hol camp. She, her sister Saida, and her mother, Resmien, were never heard from again, and the family had lost contact.

Abdullah was originally raised in Al Hol and later transported to another city in Syria, to be repatriated on August 26 of this year to his mother's family.

With a childhood spent between war and camps, he is now with those who are his family, but whom he has never known before. Fortunately, although in extremely difficult circumstances, Abdullahi has been taught Albanian, the language of his parents. /Shqiptarja.com
