Lawyer present at judge's murder: We were afraid, we stayed hidden

A lawyer from Lushnja was present at the appeals court when the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja occurred.

"Fear and uncertainty in the first moments affected those present in the courtroom when the shots were heard," says lawyer Solvega Topulli.

According to her, after seeing the injured and the bloodied Judge Kalaja, the other attendees closed the courtroom doors and hid.

He describes the murder of the judge and the injury of two witnesses as the most serious incident that has ever happened to justice.

According to the lawyer, controls in the courts do not exist and the situation is uncertain even in the first instance court in Fier, writes Klan News.

Security measures in this court do not exist for either judges or citizens. Lawyer Topulli raises concerns that the incident could be repeated in this court, where the threat to life is present at any moment.

In Fier, there are 15 judges and only 5 courtrooms for holding hearings.

In anticipation of the trial schedule, the arrested, their lawyers, prosecutors, judges, and the opposing party wait for hours in a shared environment.

The fear that incidents could occur is great. In the Fier Court, problems with the security of the premises have been raised earlier by lawyers, but no measures have been taken to change the situation.
