The Competition Authority announces that it has opened the in-depth investigation procedure in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables in the region of Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Fier and Korçë.

According to the announcement of the institution, the Competition Commission at the meeting on October 4, evaluated the data obtained during the preliminary investigation phase in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables in these regions.

The preliminary investigation was opened in June, after the end of the monitoring procedure in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables.

The monitoring and preliminary investigation showed that, after analyzing the market structure, vertical integration, the behavior of aggregators and the large differences in the product value chain from producers, aggregators, wholesalers to the end consumer, it was estimated that this market there may be anti-competitive behavior, as a result of agreements or concerted practices between two or more enterprises operating in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables, in the sense of Article 4 of Law no. 9121 dated 28.07.2003 "On the protection of competition".

For the above, the Competition Commission decided to open the in-depth investigation procedure, which will include the period January 1, 2023 - September 30, 2024.

However, the Competition Authority has not yet made public the full decision, with the analysis and arguments that prompted the opening of the in-depth investigation.
