The government shutdown in the United States has begun to have its effects outside American borders, including Albania.

The US Embassy in Tirana announced today that, due to the lack of an agreement on the approval of the federal budget, its activities on social networks will be significantly limited.

In a post on the official Facebook page, the Embassy explained:  Due to the delay in approving budget funds, this Facebook account will not be updated regularly – with the exception of urgent information on security issues – until regular activity resumes.

However, essential consular services will continue to be provided as possible, including visas for transit and travel to the U.S., as well as passport services: During this time, scheduled passport and transit visa services in the United States and at embassies and consulates abroad will continue as possible.

The Embassy urges citizens to check the latest status and information on the official website of the Department of State: travel.state.gov.
