Other details emerge from the tragedy of the Kola family in Italy, which shocked not only the community there, but also our country.
On Wednesday evening, four family members Arti Kola , 44 years old, a painter, his wife Jonida , 48 years old, his son Hajdar , 22 years old, an electrician, and his daughter Jessica , 15 years old, lost their lives from carbon monoxide in their new apartment in the Rughi neighborhood.
According to local media reports, the family's son, Hajdari, had called the emergency number 112 at 7:58 p.m. and was connected to 118, saying: " My sister is feeling unwell ."
The call lasted 11 minutes, but during it, Hajdar lost consciousness due to poisoning. He had given the wrong address, 168 instead of 186, and this delayed the ambulance's intervention for several crucial minutes.
The ambulance arrived in the area at around 20:03, but could not find the house and asked for the help of neighbors and then the carabinieri to locate the exact address. It was not until around 21:46 that emergency teams arrived at the door of the apartment.
When Turim Kola, the victims' uncle, and two carabinieri tried to enter, the lack of oxygen made them feel unwell and they were taken outside for medical attention. Firefighters later arrived and secured the apartment, but doctors pronounced the entire family dead. In his testimony, the uncle repeatedly stated that he was unable to save them, as they had fainted.
Today, the prosecution has provided details on the investigations that will follow: the new boiler in the apartment is under control, it will be verified whether it was installed and controlled according to the law, and who carried out the installation. The apartment, purchased by Arti Kola about three years ago, was a new home for the family for only 6-7 months.
The incident has shocked the small community of Porcari, where the Kola family was highly regarded. The Carnival parade has been canceled as a sign of mourning, while a prayer vigil is being held at the church of San Giusto for the victims. Jessica's high school friends have collected her poems and placed flowers and a red heart-shaped balloon in front of the family's home.
